Synchronous generation provides the "muscle" for a power grid. Despite the fervent wishes of renewable power advocates, synchronous generation will be a necessary part of power grids for the foreseeable future. If nuclear-driven synchronous generation is closed in CA in 2030, it will likely be replaced with coal-fired power from Wyoming.
